Kristen Smiarowski MFA

has been a choreographer, dance educator and dancer for 11 years. Her extensive experience in dance education includes teaching choreography, improvisation, modern dance, and folk dance to people of all ages. Kristen is currently a Teaching Artist for the Fullerton School District’s All the Arts for All the Kids residency program; the Southern California Wolf Trap Institute; and the AMAN International Folk Ensemble / Music Center Education Division. She has also taught courses at U.C.L.A., Mount St. Mary’s College, Bellis Music Camp, Millikan Middle School and Westwood Charter School.

Originally from Pasadena, CA, Kristen returned to Los Angeles from New York in 1999. She holds an M.F.A. in Dance from U.C.L.A. (2002) and a B.A. in Psychology from U.C. Santa Cruz (1996). While at U.C.L.A., she was honored with numerous awards, including the Glorya Kaufman Award for Excellence in Choreography (2000-2001), the Alma Hawkins Choreographic Award (2000), the Elaine Krown Klein Fine Arts Scholarship (2001 – 2002), and the Clifton Webb Scholarship (2001-2002).
