"INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP
IN DANCE/MOVEMENT THERAPY"

This workshop is intended for individuals who would like an introduction to the basic concepts of dance/movement therapy. Students, dancers, therapists, and those interested in the transformative elements of creative movement experience are welcome. No prior movement experience is necessary. This course meets the qualifications for 5 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (Provider #3888).


Course Description:


This day long workshop will introduce participants to dance/movement therapy as a creative arts therapy modality. The history of the field will be discussed along with the major tenets of mind/body integration, nonverbal communication and emotional expressive movement. The process of finding personal meaning in thoughtful embodied experience will be explored through movement experientials, lecture presentations and educational films.

Course Goals:

1)
Participants will be presented with a general overview of the field.
2)
Participants will engage in movement experiences that highlight basic dance/movement therapy concepts.
3)
Participants will learn how emotional experiences impact body functioning.
4)
Participants will increase awareness of their non-verbal expressive style.

Course Location:

The Loyola Marymount University (LMU) campus is located in West Los Angeles.
The workshop location is a 15 minute drive from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Course Registration and Fee:


Registration on or before Nov. 1st: $85.00*
Registration after Nov. 1st: $100.00

*a $50.00 deposit must be received to hold your space and is due by October 1st.

Refund Policy:

A course fee deposit is due at the time an application is submitted.
The deposit holds your place in the course. Deposits not used for a given course may be applied to other courses within a 1 year period, but are not refunded for lack of attendance. If a course is cancelled, your deposit will be returned. CMER reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient registration. Final decisions regarding the status of each class are usually made two weeks before the scheduled start date. Before making flight arrangements, please contact CMER to be sure enough people have registered for the course.

About the instructor:

Kathy Cass
BC-DMT, MA, NCC, CYT, E-RYT 500

Kathy Cass is a board certified dance/movement therapist, nationally certified counselor, and a certified yoga therapist with over 25 years of instructional and clinical experience with a variety of populations. She has expertise as a long-standing director of a non-profit therapeutic dance/yoga organization as well as a movement/yoga consultant for numerous institutions and individuals.

Kathy is a member and head of the BC-DMT Certification Committee for the American Dance Therapy Association. She has been a guest lecturer at Scripps College, CMER at Loyola Marymount University and Tiverton House at UCLA.

Kathy is currently a part-time faculty member at Santa Monica College Emeritus Division and an Advisory Board Member for CSUF Extended Education in Expressive Arts Therapies. She also maintains a private practice including group and individual supervision in Santa Monica, CA. She has also been choreographer/movement consultant for local theater and off-Broadway productions.
