DANCE/MOVEMENT THERAPY

Dance/Movement Therapy is the "psychotherapeutic use of movement as a process that furthers the emotional, cognitive, social and physical integration of the individual"

Dance/Movement Therapists work with individuals and groups in psychiatric facilities, nursing homes, addiction treatment programs, medical and alternative health care centers, private practices and schools. Their work focuses on improving:

  • Self-esteem and body image
  • Coping skills, health and well-being
  • Creative self-expression and self-awareness
  • Communication and relationship skills

CMER offers both introductory one day workshops to explore what Dance/ Movement Therapy is about, as well as a selection of comprehensive Alternate Route Training Courses for professional development in becoming a Dance/Movement Therapist. Most CMER Courses provide Continuing Education credit as an approved provider of continuing education by the Board of Behavioral Sciences (#3888).

"The DMT Alternate Route Training Courses"

CMER offers Alternate Route Training Courses in Dance/Movement Therapy. Courses adhere to the American Dance Therapy Association guidelines for ADTR's Teaching Alternate Route Training courses and can be completed in 17 to 18 months. Many courses can also be taken for continuing education (CE) for MFT and LCSW licensure requirements in California (#3888). Courses include:

  • Laban Movement Analysis
  • Kestenberg Movement Profile (KMP)

CMER offers individual, intensive workshops focusing on key subjects within the realm of Dance/Movement therapy. Current workshop offerings are listed below:

"Introduction To
Dance/Movement Therapy"

CMER presents an introductory workshop intended for individuals who would like an introduction to the basic concepts of dance/movement therapy. Students, dancers, therapists, and those interested in the transformative elements of creative movement experience are welcome. No prior movement experience is necessary. This course meets the qualifications for 7 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (Provider #3888).
